Markets of Warwick: ‘An experience of a lifetime’

Journalist Lauren Boyle wrote an article on the Markets of Warwick walkabout tour on the local website, www.looklocal.co.za on 11 September 2011. She described it as an experience of a lifetime and did an extensive review.

These are some of her reflections:
“I never thought I’d see the day that I would be walking in Warwick Junction. I don’t even drive through the area anymore, choosing to take the new fly over bridge. Little did I know what an interesting place it actually is, with a vibe all of its own. I got the opportunity to go on a field trip to Warwick Junction with a school group from St Mary’s recently…

School tours are now being encouraged, to fit in with the geography curriculum, and many school groups have been exposed to the history of Durban and its diverse cultural heritage, which is encompassed by the tour. I got to enjoy this experience too, learning a lot from Richard Dobson, who was the tour guide for the group I joined…

We felt perfectly safe as we journeyed around the area. As we walked around, Richard stopped to tell us about various areas and markets. He told us how there were changes at different times of the day regarding goods and food sold…

What an experience, which I can recommend to any tourist, local and international, as well as school pupil.”
