Working in Warwick Book
Working in Warwick: Including Street Traders in Urban Plans by authors Richard Dobson (AeTs Project Leader) and Caroline Skinner (Senior Researcher, African Centre for Cities and Urban Research Director and Publications Editor, WIEGO).
The book documents the lessons learned from the Warwick Junction Project, an inner city renewal initiative which sensitively integrated street traders into the cityscape.
This video, which accompanies the book, is a snapshot of a day in Warwick Junction. Warwick Junction is the primary public transport interchange in the city of Durban. On an average day the area accommodates almost 500,000 commuters, and at least 6000 informal traders. Given the confluence of rail, taxi and bus transport, this area has always been a natural market for informal traders.
