At the end of 2020, Asiye eTafuleni was commissioned as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to contribute to the compendium of documents called ‘PUBLIC SPACE TRADING GUIDELINES FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT’ to be prepared for SALGA. The team was appointed by the Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) – an agency of the National Treasury – and reported to the Capacity Building Programme for Employment Promotion (CBPEP) which is anchored within GTAC. The project had been initially conceived as a broader review, but the emphasis was shifted and the project was accelerated as a response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the informal sector.
The compendium comprises three parts: Policy Guidelines, Framework By-Law, and Safety, Spatial and Infrastructure Guidelines. Asiye eTafuleni was the author of the third part.
